Wool Hats - The Wool hats are designed to roll up into your bag or pocket, and are fine to wear in the rain or snow. For cleaning, we recommend hand washing in cold water with a mild soap such as Woolite. When the water runs clear, roll the hat up in a clean towel as you would a sweater. Let the hat air-dry laid flat on the towel, or stuffed with tissue paper. If the hat becomes wrinkled when it is dry you can press it with a steam iron turned on low.
Felt Hats - To keep your hat free from dust and dirt, simply brush with a stiff natural bristle brush in the direction of the nap. If the hat gets wet with rain or snow use the brush or your hand to move the nap of the felt so it is all going the same direction. If your hat gets really wet it may lose its shape, so be careful to let it dry completely on a flat surface
Wool/Angora Hats - Follow the instructions for washing Wool Hats. After you have rolled the hat in the towel, stuff with tissue and brush the Angora hair so that the fur follows the same direction. Let the hat air-dry, or blow for 5 minutes with a hair dryer. Do not exceed this time or the hat may shrink. If your Angora hat gets dusty you can brush the furry part with a stiff bristle brush.
Baby Hats - Baby Bow and Pompom styles may be hand washed in cold water. When the water runs clean, roll it in a towel and stuff with tissue. Let the hat air-dry. For Baby Flower style the leaves may run if they are wet, so it is best to keep that part dry, and wash the rest of the hat, rolling it in a towel afterwards. When finished, stuff with tissue and let the hat air-dry. All three styles may be pressed with a steam iron on low to eliminate wrinkles.
Linen Hats - Hand-wash your hat in cold water with Woolite. Gently squeeze out water. Stuff with tissue and blow with a hair dryer for 5 minutes or place in front of a fan. Make sure to dry the top button, as it can sometimes rust if not dried within a few hours. Use a steam iron on medium heat to press out any wrinkles.
Pack-able Toyo Hats - Do not wash. If you have dirt on your hat try brushing or gentle spot cleaning. Do not rub hard, or you may take off the color, or rip your hat. Call the store for one free re-block if your hat gets out of shape. Packable Hat To pack your hat in a suitcase (pack-able Toyo hats only), stuff the hat crown with socks or underwear, and place it against the bottom of the suitcase. Pack your other items around it. If you are not picky, or are in a hurry, flatten the crown and place the hat at the bottom of the suitcase, with heavy things on top. If you use this method, you will get wrinkles in your crown. To get rid of these, simply wash your hair, and put on your hat. The sun will dry it smooth, as your head will become a block to straighten the hat!
Packable Hat Men's Panama Straw - To keep Panama straw pliant spritz with a light mist of water once a week to prevent dryness. For dust or dirt, brush or lightly spot clean.
